Carstensen Contracting crews will venture into a new region late in 2026 as a large steel water pipeline has been awarded in New Mexico.
The Navajo-Gallup Reach 2 and 3 project will consist of 6 miles of 42″ steel pipe and 5.9 miles of 48″ steel pipe running through the San Juan river valley. Starting near the Frank Chee reservoir near Farmington, NM and heading cross country towards the under-construction water treatment plant near Shiprock, this project will involve overcoming several geologic features along the pipeline alignment.
CCI crews will dig through sandstone, dry washes, and steep bluffs while connecting to large bored segments while coping with the desolation and dry environments of northwestern New Mexico. Carstensen crews will be able to work mostly year round on the project, allowing several crews to remain warm and busy during the winter months.
CCI looks forward to working with the Bureau of Reclamation and the new challenges of working in New Mexico on what will be another successful large diameter pipeline.
